Mercedes-Benz Crankcase Vent Line Failure - Code P052E

Updated: Apr 23

A prominent issue on Mercedes cars such as the C300, E300, and GLC300 is a Check Engine Light caused by the diagnostic code P052E. Mostly happening right out of warranty, owners of these cars are not happy with the engine issue on their Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-Benz has an exclusive appeal that is impossible to duplicate. For more than 100 years, it has pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in the auto industry. Their vehicles are made to exceed customer expectations, so they stand out in the horde of other automobile brands. They have some of the best features available, and they come with a price that reflects this quality. Driving a Mercedes-Benz is a great experience and you’re sure to appreciate every mile you drive.

Unfortunately, with every great car comes its own set of unique issues. Today we will discuss the dreaded "P052E" diagnostic code that is prominent on late-model Mercedes-Benz cars and what it means for you as the vehicle owner.

What is the trouble code P052E?

If the check engine light on your Mercedes-Benz is on with the diagnostic code P052E, it is most often caused by the crankcase ventilation line (also referred to as the crankcase breather hose). We often see the valves in these ventilation lines fail due to oil and condensation which then triggers the check engine light.

What's the fix?

Unfortunately, there's no quick easy fix to this problem on Mercedes. To repair this issue and maintain the reliability of your engine, it is necessary to replace the entire crankcase vent line assembly. Fortunately, this part is now covered under a Mercedes-Benz Emission Extended Warranty for 15 years / 150,000 miles (whichever occurs first). Look below to see the official document from Mercedes-Benz regarding the coverage for this repair. If you are experiencing this issue and are covered under the terms of the document, you can take your Mercedes-Benz to the dealership to have it repaired free of charge.
